The Neighborhood Speakeasy
Earl's Blind Tiger served as the chief gathering place for the town of Hanover. Old men who liked to share memories, lonely men looking for companionship, and young men wanting to prove themselves worthy all frequented the speakeasy on a nightly basis. In addition to the liquor, drama was nearly always on the menu, in the form of fisticuffs and bar sports. Earl knew that more conflict led to more alcohol being sold and more money in his pocket.
Now if only there was a woman or two willing to enter his place, Earl might be able to retire soon.
The Golden Thread Part One
“It’s too dark. I heard there are tigers in this jungle.”
“Yes.”
“Ordinary tigers?”
“Different. They’re faster, and their fangs have venom, like a snake.”
“What if we see one?”
“They will see you first. Just watch. Just be still.”
“How can we be still with tigers after us?”
“They’re not after us.”
“What if they catch us?”
“If you run they will chase you and they will catch you. They tear the throat, and the poison goes in the blood. It paralyzes you, makes you blind, makes you forget why you are here. And then you drop the thread.”From Guest Contributor Brook Bhagat

Callous Humans
An aged tiger was on the prowl. One night it caught a sheep. As it could not carry its prey, it tried to eat it there. The cows in the shed raised an alarm. The villagers gathered, pelting stones. The tiger ran away.
The villagers staged a protest, wanting the government to exterminate it. Experts were called in. The next day they shot the tiger. How callous are humans, I thought.
A tiger took a sheep, a sheep that was to be slaughtered the next day!
If animals could strike back for their rights, we all would be behind bars!

There Is A Tiger Waiting For All Of Us
The rain fell lightly upon the pavement. Benfer was dry in the bus shelter, but he was trapped as well. He watched as the moisture slowly seeped closer and it wasn't very long before he'd been forced onto the bench.
Across the street, even in the dim light, Benfer could see the tiger. This was not an ordinary tiger, of course. It was the tiger that had been stalking him his entire life.
The difference between tigers and Benfer was that tigers weren't afraid of moisture. Benfer's last, sad thought was that he'd expected his story to end very differently.
Reversal Of Fortune
I was seized by the worst criminals and forced into bondage.
My captors liked to punish me in cruel but creative ways. They'd force me to hold down a weighted lever that would release a cage door for a hungry tiger should I let go. They'd cover me in honey and let bears lick me clean. They'd fill my mattress with earth worms. They'd purposely leave open an escape route but recapture me at the last moment.
But none of their tortures pained me as much as knowing that it had once been my job to dream up these punishments.
The Interminable Gecko
At nine years old, every child in the land of Baywater was befriended by a talking animal that served as a guardian. On the eve of their birthdays, the children would wait with eager anticipation to meet their new companions, always hoping they would get one of the cooler animals, like a tiger or dinosaur.
So it was that Stevie Jackson was slightly disappointed to learn his spirit animal would be a gecko. It was especially annoying as it loudly chirped "gecko" in his ear all night long.
At least it would scare away all the girls in his class.
