Song Of The Absurd
Simon, the court jester, pranced across the oval flagstones, drawing sneers from the many important personages in attendance. They found his antics both annoying and embarrassing, and wondered why the king tolerated him.
Just last week, Lord Bulworth had insinuated, in the most polite tone, that perhaps his majesty had been ill-advised when he ordered the Naval attack against the Kingdom of Flavina. He was beheaded before sunset. Yet Simon was allowed to hurl all manner of insults against the King's most trusted advisors.
When the royal order for the next purge came, Simon was the only one to survive.
A Far Worse Fate
“I’m sorry, your majesty,” squeaked mouse, prostrate in the straw.
The great lion sighed.
“When I saved you, I laughed at your offer. Now I am caught in this cage I can laugh no more.”
“My brothers and sisters will set you free,” promised the tiny mouse.
“This cage is electrified,” explained the lion. “Chew these bars and you’ll die.”
“So you are fated then to be a head on a wall?” wailed the mouse in disbelief.
“No little one,” sighed the lion. “My fate’s far worse.”
The Circus Train gave a shrill whistle as it pulled into the station.

His Majesty
The king sits on his throne with a large and excruciating chest wound. The room is filled with blood and lifeless bodies, his men.
The beautifully decorated hall is covered in blood and the delicately prepared meat and fruit sit untouched never to be eaten.
The king hasn’t much time. He can’t feel his legs and his body is cold. He reaches for his ring and struggles with his weak fingers to remove it. As he releases it, he slumps over and the ring drops to the ground, the noise echoing in the quiet.
His Majesty will soon be replaced.

Irish Eyes
Marie stared in the mirror, her azure eyes gazed lovingly at slender curves. She shook her head wafting strands of dark hair about her waist. A grey tracksuit clung to her physique mounted above designer trainers.
She waltzed out of the house, across the field in view of the adoring workmen, and down to the muddy cliffs onto the sandy beach. Her feet clomped to the rocks, where she climbed the coral.
At the summit she perceived a clear pond. Therein, beyond the sea creatures' majesty and waves of seaweed, perfection shone back. Fixated, even when the tide came in.
