The Projects

Bailey and Lex were proud of the fact their neighborhood was in the projects They were pioneers, venturing into a dangerous frontier to make this part of the city livable again. Whenever they entertained houseguests--an infrequent occurrence since most of their friends were too scared to visit this part of town--they always mentioned the sacrifices they were making for the greater good.

Projects was a good name. Something like an experiment. Something only the bravest couples dared participate in.

Most of the time, Bailey and Lex endured their hardships stoically. But sometimes they missed having a Starbucks nearby.

Infinity

Duncan had considered trying out an infinity mirror experiment, but taking even a box camera into a photo booth had always seemed so...uncouth.

He’d shelved the whole idea down into a little dark corner of his timidity.

Only the recent spate of high risk narcissistic selfies had managed to prise open that dungeon of shyness and resuscitate the notion.

Smartphone ideal for purpose – persuading himself that he was so much more cerebral than sneering losers – he climbed into the photo booth and popped a coin into the slot.

He timed everything perfectly and vanished up the orifice of physics.

The Mad Scientist

He was mad. Truly mad.

He spent nearly every moment in his lab, concocting, inventing, dissecting the most horrific of catastrophes. His chilling laughter echoed through the 3 AM night.

He toyed with science, shaping it in his hands, bending it to his crazed will, contorting the numbers to the point where everything was possible.

He published his results profusely. His colleagues, upon receiving their monthly journals, trembled with dismay when they saw his name listed in the table of contents.

His diabolical genius compelled him to tweak his results just enough that all of his results would be slightly inaccurate.
