Dead Weight

Eloise had been silent the whole trip back.

“If you’re still upset about what we revealed on Pan-Gu, all’s golden, alright?”

She stared at Armand blankly. The whole galley did. He pulled the craft into the space station miles above Jupiter. A station security officer greeted them.

“No one talking to me? Suit yourselves,” and Armand stepped down the gangway, past the security officer. “One of my crew will sign your documents.”

He stormed off.

She calls to her sisters, Brigit of Medicine and Brigit of Smithcraft. They watch as humans emerge on Earth.

Brigit of inspiration says to them, “Humans are evolving, so I’ve blessed them with verse. What gifts do you bestow?”

Brigit of healing says, “I share my curiosity so they explore their world and themselves.”

Brigit of the forge answers, “I share my love of craft, the shaping of earthly elements.”

Fire Elemental

The craft eased through the continuum corridor, leaving old worlds behind.

Lick wondered what the new universe would be like. Elders had assured explorers that it would sustain life. Lick wondered if it could.

There was a concussion which buffeted Lick’s form; and the craft disintegrated around him.

He landed naked in a tangle of what he assumed was the plant life which had been incorporated into his exploration briefing. Some huge and hairy bipedal form was brandishing two rocks.

He was suddenly very frightened and terribly hungry. He began to consume the dried grass and twigs.
