Chaos Angel
Bill stood overlooking the Hudson River, contemplating what reason he had for still living. He half expected an angel to appear, a wise guardian able to show him all the people who'd miss him were he no longer here. Instead, he found himself completely alone, a feeling that had grown so oppressive that any outcome would be preferable.
Bill did have a guardian angel. His name was Donald. He was scheduled to be at the bridge at exactly the moment he was most needed. Unfortunately, Donald did not believe in keeping a calendar. He preferred to wing it (pun intended).
Difficult Patient
The hearing aid specialist, Linda, clasped her hands against her cheeks.
“Mrs. Marconi, for months now I’ve shown you how to insert the hearing aids. If you're having difficulty, we need another impression to order a new pair.”
Mrs. Marconi shifted in her seat. “No, I hear fine with these.”
Linda explained that if she’s not satisfied, then she needs to rethink her choice.
Mrs. Marconi thanked Linda and walked out.
Linda rolled her eyes and dreaded the thought of her next appointment with her.
She noted in her calendar to call in sick the day of Mrs. Marconi’s appointment.

Great Minds
Despite my dread, graduation blasted through the calendar. The ceremony was lovely; I felt something strange in my heart. After I got home, I gravitated to my room and turned on my computer. I opened an old chat program, scrolled down to his name. Our last chat, both online and in real life, was more than five years ago. I saw him sitting in the front row an hour ago.
I read our conversations, laughed, forgot his vanishing act.
Suddenly, the grey icon went green.
Soccer93 is typing….
The message vanished.
Soccer93 is typing….
“Great minds think alike, I guess.”
